--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monkees records are highly sought after by collectors, especially the later Colgems releases (and Colgems re-releases!!!) Since there were so many variations of records released, I will try to consolidate the more common stuff....all of the Monkees releases will follow below, and links to the solo/joint member material are right here.....

MONKEES RECORD PRICE GUIDE!!!

Just a note on good ol' Colgems.....the Colgems releases were somewhat unique, in that different pressing plants produced different-looking labels. Also, the mystery of the Colgems Logo is yet to be solved! Sometime in 1969, Colgems replaced the Screen Gems and Columbia Pictures logos on the labels with their own logo (like the one shown on the D.W. Washburn sleeve). However, many 45s and LPs were issed with BOTH label versions! Thus, one could find a "Good Clean Fun" 45 with both the common logo-label version, as well as the harder to find "traditional  label". Apparently, ALL Colgems 45s starting from 66-5004 were printed with both versions, as well as the 1969 re-releases of the Monkees hits! I have seen "Daydream Believer", "Last Train To Clarksville", "Pleasant Valley Sunday", and "I'm A Believer" all issued with the new logo-label, and on flimiser vinyl ("dynaflex", anyone?). Apparently, the "Clarksville" and "I'm A Believer" picture sleeves were ALSO reissued, with the Colgems logo gracing their cover....expect those to be VERY hard to find!

LPs:

Please note that for the first 5 Colgems LPs, any condition less than M- drops the value considerably. These albums are a dime a dozen (exception: COM-109), and very few people (i.e. 10-year olds) happened to take care of them. After 1968, the first four Monkees LPs were printed with new labels on the vinyl. The difference? The "TM of Colgems Records" disclaimer under the Colgems umbrella at the top of the label had vanished....The prices reflect what a M- LP is worth. Promo copies were issued for all Colgems LPs...these were merely regular, just-like-you'd-get-in-the-store LPs with an imprinted (no ink) "Not For Sale...For Promotional Use Only" stamped on the back, usually in the upper-left hand corner. The only exception I know of is "The Monkees" 1st LP, which was stamped in red ink "Not For Sale". The value of these LPs are slightly higher than those for the commercially issued LPs. Finally, the difference between COM and COS is, quite simply, one represents a Monaural copy and the other represents a Stereo copy. NAME

LABEL/RECORD#
VALUE

"The Monkees"
(There were two covers released...one with the misspelling of "Papa Gene's Blues" as "Jean's" on the label and cover, and the corrected copy, which featured an RE suffix after the record # on the back cover. Neither has proven to be that much rarer than the other)
10/10/66 Colgems COM-101 $25-$30
"The Monkees"
(Also issued with the misspelling. The stereo copy only was reissued (again) in 1969, with the Colgems logo appearing on the back cover....this is an extremely hard record to find. It has an RE2 coding next to the record # on the back cover)
10/10/66 Colgems COS-101 $25-$30
"More of the Monkees"
(Features a different mix of "Steppin' Stone" than does COS-102....this is the same mix as the 45 version)
1/10/67 Colgems COM-102 $25-$30
"More of the Monkees"
(Supposedly, there were clear vinyl promo LPs issued and given to DJs. However, this is probably just a rumor, and if one does exist, it is most likely a bootleg or a one-of-a-kind pressing from the plant where someone just kept the vinyl from being dyed black)

Also, the stereo copy only was reissued in 1969, with the Colgems logo appearing on the back cover...this is an extremely hard record to find. It has an RE coding next to the record # on the back cover.
1/10/67 Colgems COS-102 $25-$30
"Headquarters"
(The first 3 million or so copies of this LP were issued with a picture on the back cover (featuring Dick Bogert and Chip Douglas) mistaking Bogert for Hank Cicalo. The LP was reissued with a different photo, featuring both Douglas and Cicalo, as well as all four Monkees, and featured an RE suffix after the record # on the back cover. Neither version of this LP has proven to be rarer than the other.)
5/20/67 Colgems COM-103 $25-$30
"Headquarters"
(See notes for COM-103)
5/20/67 Colgems COS-103 $25-$30
"Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones, Ltd."
(Features a longer version of "She Hangs Out" unavailable elsewhere)
11/14/67 Colgems COM-104 $30-$40
"Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones, Ltd." 11/14/67 Colgems COS-104 $25-$35
"The Birds, The Bees, & The Monkees"
(Features completely different mixes unavailable anywhere else [except the 1994 "Listen To The Band" Rhino box-set, which attempted to reproduce the songs as the sounded, though in stereo]). Worse, VERY  few copies of this LP were printed, as mono was being phased out, making this the RAREST Monkees U.S. LP release.
4/22/68 Colgems COM-109 $150-$200
"The Birds, The Bees, & The Monkees" 4/22/68 Colgems COS-109 $25-$35
"Head" (Soundtrack)
(Very few copies of this LP were flawless...the Mylar cover on almost all of them would crinkle or fold as they were being stamped on the cardboard! Also, the LP features an edited version of "Porpoise Song" unavailable elsewhere.)
12/1/68 Colgems COSO-5008 $40-$50
"Instant Replay" 2/15/69 Colgems COS-113 $30-$40
"The Monkees' Greatest Hits"
(The cover art for this LP was originally very elaborate! It was also designed by Neko Cholis [I say also as he did the cover art for the released version as well], and was noted as being inspired by Micky Dolenz. It featured drwings of stars and planets on the cover, with the names of the songs, producers, etc. inside of them. It was slated to be Colgems release #COS-113.)

Also, "A Little Bit Me..." is issued for the first time without the handclaps.
6/14/69 Colgems COS-115 $25-$35
"The Monkees Present" 10/11/69 Colgems COS-117 $40-$60
"The Monkees' Golden Hits"
(Available only through Post Cereals, by sending in money and box tops from either "Honeycomb", "Alpha Bits", and "Frosted Rice Krinkles")

"The Monkees"
(Available only through TV mail-order)
6/76 Laurie House/RCA LH-8009/DLP2-0188 $30-$50
"The Monkees' Greatest Hits"
(As Arista changed it's label over the years, this LP had many variations. None appear to be worth much.)
7/76 Arista AL 4089 $3-$5
"More Greatest Hits of the Monkees" 10/82 Arista ABM 2007 $5-$10
"Monkee Business"
(Later pressings featured altered versions of songs, the most notable being an intro to "Someday Man" which leaves the original studio banter and instrument practices prior to the start of the song....these pressings have an "RE" etched in the trail-off vinyl, and are extremely hard to locate)
11/82 Rhino RNLP-701 $20-$50
"Monkee Flips" 2/84 Rhino RNLP-113 $10-$15

(For about a month, Arista printed up this and the below LP, after not wishing to renew their license to Rhino. However, Rhino already milked the LPs for all the $$$ they were worth, so Arista only printed a handful of each. These are going to be very collectible, I guarantee it!!!)
