ADVERTISEMENTS
    KLRA The Beat
Radio station KRLA covered top 40 acts in "The Beat"
from October 1964 to May 4, 1968. In 1965 it began to be distributed

through other radio stations in Hollywood,
      San Francisco (KYA),
New York, Chicago (WCFL) and Nashville.

Their top 40 list was was based on call-ins for playlist requests
      but because they
included album airplay as well as singles,
      their charts were
      different from
      most stations.
So beyond the hits, The Monkees also charted
"She", "I Wanna Be Free", "She Hangs Out" (from the
      withdrawn Canadian single)
and the first version of "Valleri" which some DJ had taped from the TV Show.
